WWE PTSA & Missoula Children’s Theatre present Blackbeard the Pirate

WWE PTSA is proud to announce the return of Missoula Children’s Theatre and their student production to WWE.  This year’s production is Blackbeard the Pirate!

Auditions: Monday, February 2, 2015 from 3:00-5:00pm in the gym!
Students in grades Kindergarten through 6th Grade wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session.  This is a group audition – no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts.  Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!  There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.

Rehearsals: Monday, February 2, 2015 – Friday, February 6, 2015, time determined by role in production, held at WWE
The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition for a few select parts.  While not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role.

Performances: Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:00pm and 5:00pm
The performances will be presented at West Woods Elementary School.  The students in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal in the morning on Saturday February 7, 2015.  All those cast must be available the rehearsal AND both scheduled performances.

We realize that the children may have other after-school commitments, however, this is a once a year opportunity!  This is a truly amazing program and experience.  If your child is interested, we suggest you consider the possibility of missing a week of the other activity.  Rehearsal schedules for the week are distributed on Monday, immediately following the audition so you have the ability to identify any potential conflicts for the week at that time.

What is the play about?
Blackbeard the Pirate is an original adaptation with a twist on the classic story we all know and love! What starts as a lazy day at the beach quickly turns into mystery and adventure when the search for Blackbeard’s treasure begins! Grab some sunscreen, come on down to the beach, and get ready to solve the mystery of Blackbeard the Pirate!

Please return the audition registration form for each student who would like to audition.  Forms can be returned via Friday Folders or to the school office.

What is the Hour of Code?

A one-hour activity. All students will complete a self-guided tutorial, working in pairs and supported by teachers and parent volunteers.  Check out the tutorials at
A spark to keep learning computer science. Once students see what they create right before their eyes, they’re empowered to keep learning.

Why computer science?

Every 21st-century student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. The basics help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills, and prepare students for any future career. Software and computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. Computer Science Education Week ( is observed each year in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper.  The Hour of Code is an initiative that was created by as one piece of CSEd Week to expose students of all ages to the power of computer science.

Did you know…

  • Software jobs outnumber computer science students 3-to-1.  It is expected that there will be 1 million unfilled computer science jobs in the United States by the year 2020.
  • 90% of K-12 schools in the U.S. do not teach computer science.  In many countries (including China, the United Kingdom and Australia), computer science is—or soon will be—required.
  • Anyone can learn the basics, starting in elementary school, but fewer than 10% of students (and just 4% of female students, 3% of students of color) take computer science classes.

How can you help?  Volunteer to lead an Hour of Code!
You do not need any prior code knowledge.  We promise!  Check out the tutorials and you’ll see how fun and easy it will be!
WWE PTSA has helped purchase much of the technology at WWE.  We have gladly done so because we recognize the importance of technology in education.  We feel this is a great opportunity for interested parents to help us introduce an Hour of Code to students at West Woods.  Are you ready to do something fun with our West Woods students?  Visit the Hour of Code sign-up Genius ( to donate an hour (or more!) of your time to introduce one of the fun games available for Hour of Code.

Still not sure?
Parent volunteers will be given support and preparation materials in order to make each Hour a success.  PTSA will provide a suggested script for introducing the Hour to the class and will be working with teachers to select the appropriate tutorial for each grade.  You can see sample tutorials/games to be used for the Hour of Code at  You can also review the tutorial guide at

Oh and did we forget to tell you… by participating in the Hour of Code, WWE is eligible for a chance to win a class set of laptops from!

2014-2015 Photo Student & Family Directory

2014-2015 is a Photo Directory year!

If you are new to WWE since the fall of 2012, then you may not be familiar with our biannual Photo Directory produced by Randall’s Photography. But if you are a seasoned WWE family, then you know how fantastic this directory is!

In addition to the student listing, class lists, family contact information, and school contact information, this special directory edition features photos of WWE families photographed at Randall’s in a FREE session. If you are new to WWE, you can view a copy of the 2012 photo directory at Randall’s Photography (7400 Indiana Street).

All photography is done on-site at Randall’s Photography Studio. Portraits will be photographed outside. They will do a short session with each family. Pets are welcome. Posing is limited to one family pose and one of the kids, for each family. A separate portrait session can be scheduled if you have special requests for a particular background or poses. (Call Randall’s studio for session prices.)

After the session, the images will be posted online the day you are photographed. Each family will choose the photo they would like to be printed in the directory and that will be done at no cost to WWE families. In addition, families have the wonderful opportunity to order prints and digital images at a reduced price in. This is an excellent chance to order discounted high-end wall portraits of your family, gifts, and JPEG images for printing Christmas cards.

WWE families who wish to participate in this great program should call Randall’s Photography directly at 303-425-6077 to schedule a session. Call today! The best times will be taken soon. Photo session dates are:

Saturday, August 23rd from 8 a.m. to noon
